I heard those very words last week, as reported by Linda Vasquez, who heads one of the I AM Foundation's recipient programs.

It touched me deeply when I read it, not only because I was able to support this little girl's life, but because it reminded me of my own childhood. I wasn't poor, but I certainly felt ugly and inadequate.

I began The I AM Foundation to give children the tools that would help them to avoid the same painful influence of low self-esteem that I experienced growing up. I envisioned these tools would be inspirational books that I would write and books that other authors would contribute.

I wish I had received this kind of support in feeling great about myself growing up. I want nothing less for my own children and I want it to be possible for all children.

My vision is of a world where children feel great about themselves. As I moved forward in realizing The I AM Foundation's vision, it occurred to me that I needed my own support.
I didn't feel great about myself -- at times, I barely even felt good about myself.

Since my work with The I AM Foundation was practically the only thing that I felt great about,
I wanted more.

Here I was, working toward my vision of a world where children felt great about themselves, and I was struggling to raise my own self-esteem. Realizing that I was unable to do this by myself, I asked for help.

That's when two of my best friends on the planet showed up, Neill Gibson and Beth Banning of Focused Attention.

While attending one of their seminars, I realized that I had been "settling" for less than
I really wanted in most areas of my life.

The course focused on the crucial aspects of identifying patterns in my thinking, learning how these patterns got started, and discovering why these patterns were "responsible" for my actions.

This course blew away my self-imposed limitations and empowered me to finally create the results that I wanted in my relationships and in my life.

As the course progressed, I began to understand the things that are really important to me, what my values are, and how I didn't have to settle for anything in my life.

I not only learned to discover what was truly important to me at a core level, I was also able to acquire the tools for getting what I want most.

In writing this, I have to wonder if that's what we're doing to the world that we live in-we are settling. We continue to accept things that we don't want because we don't believe we can have the things that we do want.

For example, I realized that I was "settling" for partners who were not a match for me. Now, these were very nice, loving and wonderful people, they just weren't the right people for me.

As I continued in Beth and Neill's course, I realized that I wasn't even clear about what I "did" want in my relationships, and that on some level I had settled for something less because I didn't believe I could have what I really wanted.

I thought about how wonderful it would be if I were able to attract a partner who was a perfect match for me. Motivated by that, I got to work on getting clear about what I would most value in that relationship.

Within one month after taking Beth and Neill's course, I was blessed with meeting an incredible life and business partner, my beloved wife Marilyn.

We just celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary. Neill was the best man at the wedding, and both Beth and Neill continue to support us in creating a life we love.

I am awestruck at how I have been able to receive such a loving, dynamic partnership in my life. This has empowered and multiplied the I AM vision a hundred times over.

Since Marilyn and I were married, we've traveled to Italy and Sri Lanka to gift The I AM! Affirmation Book to children there, translated into their own language.
